Aerobic Septic Systems
Not every property in Southern Oklahoma can support a conventional septic system. Soil conditions, lot size, and proximity to water sources all play a role in what Oklahoma DEQ will approve for your land.
When a conventional system is not the right fit, an aerobic septic system is often the solution.
At Standard Construction and Environmental, we install and service aerobic septic systems across Southern Oklahoma and we are licensed to do it right.

What Is an Aerobic Septic System?
An aerobic septic system treats wastewater using oxygen rather than relying solely on the soil to filter it. Air is pumped into the treatment chamber where it activates bacteria that break down waste more thoroughly than a conventional system does.
The treated effluent is then dispersed through spray heads across a designated area of the property. Because the treatment process produces cleaner effluent than a conventional system, aerobic systems are approved for properties where soil conditions or lot size would not support a standard drain field.
These are common on smaller rural lots, properties near water, and land where the soil profile does not pass for conventional installation.
How an Aerobic System Differs From a Conventional System
Both systems start with a septic tank that separates solids from liquid waste. After that the process is different.
A conventional system sends the liquid effluent into a drain field where it filters slowly through the soil. It is a passive system with no moving parts and relatively low maintenance requirements.
An aerobic system adds an aeration chamber and a treatment process before the effluent is dispersed. The treated water goes through spray heads that distribute it across the surface of a designated spray area. Because the system has mechanical components including an air pump, a timer, and a chlorination system, it requires more frequent maintenance than a conventional tank.
The advantage is that aerobic systems can be installed on properties where conventional systems simply will not work.
Aerobic System Installation
Installing an aerobic septic system starts with a soil profile test to confirm the property qualifies and to determine the correct system size and layout. From there we handle the permit coordination with Oklahoma DEQ, excavation and tank placement, component installation, spray head layout, and system testing before the job is complete.
Standard Construction and Environmental holds Septic and Sewer Contractor License #802, which specifically covers aerobic spray systems in addition to subsurface and lagoon installation. We know what Oklahoma DEQ requires and we install every system to meet those standards.
Aerobic System Maintenance
Oklahoma DEQ requires aerobic septic systems to be under an active maintenance contract. That means the system needs to be inspected on a regular schedule and those inspections need to be documented.
Beyond the regulations, staying on top of maintenance is simply good practice. Aerobic systems have mechanical and electrical components that can wear out over time. Regular inspections catch small problems before they become costly repairs.
A typical maintenance visit includes checking the air pump, inspecting the spray heads for clogs or damage, verifying the chlorination system is functioning, reviewing the control panel for any fault codes, and documenting the condition of the system.
If your aerobic system has not been serviced recently or you are not sure whether your maintenance contract is current, give us a call and we can help get you back on track.
Aerobic System Repairs
When something goes wrong with an aerobic system it is usually one of the mechanical components. Common repairs include replacing a failed air pump, clearing clogged or damaged spray heads, repairing the chlorination system, fixing wiring or control panel issues, and addressing problems with the pump tank or float switches.
If your system alarm has been triggered or you have noticed spray heads that are not working, standing water near the spray field, or any unusual odors, give us a call. We will come out, diagnose the problem, and get the system back up and running.
Licensed for Aerobic Spray Systems in Oklahoma
Not every septic contractor in Oklahoma is licensed to install aerobic systems. Standard Construction and Environmental holds Septic and Sewer Contractor License #802, which covers subsurface systems, lagoon construction, and aerobic spray systems as verified by Oklahoma DEQ. We also hold Soil Profiler License #046 and Septage Transporter License #482.
Working with a licensed contractor protects you from improper installation that does not meet state requirements and ensures your system will pass inspection and remain compliant with DEQ regulations over time.
